Private 1:1 swimming lessons on the Wirral

In a private 1:1 lesson, your child has the complete, undivided attention of their teacher for the full 30 minutes. There are no other children to share the teacher’s time with — every instruction, every correction, every encouragement is directed solely at your child.

The lesson is shaped entirely around what your child needs. If they’re nervous about putting their face in the water, the teacher can spend as long as is needed building that confidence. If they’re ready to work on a specific stroke, the whole lesson can be devoted to exactly that.

As a result, many children make more progress in a short course of private lessons than they do over a full term in a group setting — not because group lessons aren’t valuable, but because 1:1 attention is simply a different level of focus.

🌟
SEND & additional needs — specialist private lessons

Our private 1:1 lessons are particularly well suited to children with SEND or additional learning needs. In a private setting, the teacher can adapt their communication style, pace, and structure entirely to suit your child — without the distractions of a group environment. We have significant experience teaching children with a wide range of additional needs. Contact Hayley to discuss your child’s needs.

Got two children? Ask about our 2:1 lessons

We also offer semi-private 2:1 lessons — one teacher, two children. This works particularly well for siblings at a similar level, giving both children much more individual attention than a group lesson, while being a more cost-effective alternative to two separate 1:1 sessions. Who are private lessons for?

😟

Nervous or anxious swimmers

For children who feel overwhelmed or anxious around water, the calm, one-to-one environment makes an enormous difference. Without the distractions of a group, the teacher can focus entirely on building trust and confidence at the child’s own pace.

🎯

Technique and stroke refinement

Children who are already swimming but want to improve a specific stroke — front crawl breathing, breaststroke kick, turns — benefit hugely from dedicated 1:1 focus. Furthermore, corrections that might take weeks to address in a group can be worked on intensively in just a few private sessions.

Fast-tracking progress

Holiday intensive courses are popular, but private lessons offer another route to accelerated progress. A short block of weekly 1:1 lessons — particularly at the start of learning — can establish the foundations of confidence and technique much more quickly than group sessions alone.

🌟

Children who learn differently

Some children simply don’t thrive in a group environment — whether due to sensory needs, additional learning needs, or simply because they’re more comfortable with individual attention. In a 1:1 lesson, the teacher can adapt their communication style, pace, and approach entirely to suit that child.

🏆

Pre-competition preparation

For children approaching competition level or preparing to join a swimming club, private lessons provide the focused technical work needed — starts, turns, race-specific stroke technique — that’s difficult to address in a standard group lesson.

🔄

Catching up or filling gaps

Children who have missed time due to illness, holidays, or simply getting behind their peer group can use private lessons to catch up efficiently. In addition, children moving between swim schools sometimes have specific gaps in their technique that private lessons can address directly.

Private lessons vs group lessons — which is right for your child?

Both private and group lessons have genuine strengths, and many families choose to use a combination of both over time. The right choice depends on your child’s personality, their current level, and what you’re trying to achieve.

Private lessons tend to work best when:

  • Your child is nervous or anxious around water
  • You want faster progress than a group setting allows
  • Your child has additional needs or learns differently
  • You want to work on a very specific technique
  • Your child has had a difficult experience with water previously
  • They’re preparing for a competitive setting

Group lessons tend to work best when:

  • Your child is sociable and motivated by peers
  • You’re looking for steady, long-term progression
  • Your child enjoys a shared learning environment
  • They feel encouraged watching others try new skills
  • You want regular, consistent term-time lessons
💡 Many families start with private lessons to build confidence, then move into our small group lessons once their child is ready. It doesn’t have to be one or the other — Hayley will be happy to advise on the best approach for your child.

My son loves coming to his swimming lessons here. He started a complete beginner and the progress he’s made is unbelievable. All the swimming teachers are great with him. Love how they are in the pool next to him, showing and teaching him what to do. Wouldn’t go anywhere else!
