Induction programme for swim teaching
Swim teaching is a fantastic option for people at all stages of their life. For people in post 16 education, it offers the opportunity to work in a rewarding role teaching children a life skill and earn higher wages for a part-time job. For people later in their career, as well as changing the lives of children, a career in swim teaching gives you flexibility to work around your day-to-day life commitments.
Our offer
We want to support our swimming teachers to develop into the best possible teachers they can be for themselves and the children they will teach. We’re offering a bespoke training programme where we will mentor you in a paid position as an assistant with us leading to you taking your swim teaching qualification and being a fully qualified swim teacher with us earning £12-£13/hour. You will have the opportunity to shadow our experienced teachers and take parts of our lessons under supervision when you’re feeling confident enough. We will guide you through the skills you will need to pass your swim teaching qualification with flying colours and have a skill that really gives you the edge in your future. The cost of your qualification is covered by us, your time while being mentored by us will also be paid and you will work for Hayley’s Swimming School during your induction and after you pass your qualification.
Timeline
Applicants need to apply to us by the 22nd July 2022, with their CV and covering letter. We will review applications the following week. If successful, you will start your induction in September 2022. You will follow a structured induction to swim teaching over 6-8 weeks, after which you will take your swim teaching qualification in October 2022.
You must be available to take your qualification Monday 24th October to Friday 28th October 2022. You will take your qualification between 9-5 for the whole week local to West Kirby and Hoylake.
Qualification
You will be working towards an STA Award in Swim Teaching, a level 2 qualification regulated by Ofqual and recognised internationally.
The qualification develops the vocational skills and technical knowledge of a qualified swimming teacher, allowing you to independently teach your very own class of 12 participants from non-swimmers up to improvers (children and adults).
You will need to get STA membership yourself, as this is your personal liability and indemnity insurance. This covers you should anything go wrong while you are teaching. You can find out more here.
We cover the cost (approximately £400) of your qualification and for getting your DBS check, which you will also need for your qualification.
Your commitment
Once qualified you will start at £12/hour and after you have worked 75 hours for us, you will qualify for an increased hourly rate.
